The South Coast : Skógar and Skógafoss and Black Sand Beach
We decided to skip the other half of the Golden Circle and head for the south coast drive which gets to Black Sand Beach which we’d heard about from the car rental guy.
The drive onto the South Coast road took us to a huge set of falls visible from the highway -- Skógafoss -- where we stopped and wandered and gawked and took pictures and ate some excellent meat soup, also suggested by the car rental guy. I’d say the stuff we did was about half Rick Steves and half car rental guy.

We were smart enough to have brought our rain coats which we needed for the walk around the back of the falls. Again, pretty crowded, considering the lateness of the season. Lots of Asian tourists. I did notice that where historic or interesting information was displayed, they used several languages at least but almost never were they Asian. So they were forced to take pictures and use Google translate or such.

Everyone was dressed in new-looking appropriate weather wear. Like when you see San Francisco tourists with sweatshirts on.We were slumming it in that regard as we packed for Paris, not Iceland.
After the falls, we stopped at a folk life museum complex at Skógar. This took an hour or two and was great stuff if you like to see what village life was like in the 1800's and later. If not, then you took the wrong bus.

After that, we headed on to Black Sand Beach which was windy and cold and again we were happy to have the rain coats which served as windbreakers. The sand is pulverized lava rock and so has the feel of fine dirt rather than sand. We picked up some souvenir rocks and some plastic trash to throw away. I needed all the broken wing pigeon reverse karma I could get. The little town where it's located is much like every beach town everywhere. Small cottages and yard stuff made out of ocean stuff.

On the way back to the Bnb we stopped at a massive shopping store and broke down and spent a couple of hours getting coffee and looking at the wares.

Made a few purchases for the folks back home and headed the long dark drive back, seeing the aurora in the sky bringing us home.
Due to pricing and the fact that our Bnb was well out of town we shopped and had a hearty lamb and potatoes dinner.
